NSAC Parts Ways with John Melvin Schools

After a meeting between NSAC Commissioner Mike Davis and John Melvin University President David Angeron on Wednesday, the two parties have mutually decided to part ways as both the Crowley, Louisiana and Pensacola, Florida campuses will leave the conference effective immediately. Both schools were members for just one year.

“The priorities of our institutions are different,” said Davis. “There are some fundamental disagreements about the obligations and commitments which come with conference membership.”

JMU’s Louisiana campus unexpectedly dropped its men’s basketball program at the end of the 2025-26 season. The football program, originally housed in Crowley, was transferred to Pensacola for the upcoming season and had committed to participate in the conference’s inaugural football campaign this fall before backing out this week. Meanwhile resources are being diverted to open a third campus in Winter Park, Florida this fall.

“When it became clear that JMU would no longer commit itself to the certainty and stability required by the NSAC, a change of course was necessary,” Davis said.

The baseball team from the Crowley campus won the NSAC baseball championship May 3.
