SANFORD, N.C. – A 17-0 run in the first quarter set the tone as the Apprentice School women’s basketball team took down Central Carolina Saturday, 83-37.
After Central Carolina hit two free throws in the first 20 seconds, the Builders rattled off 17 straight points over the next seven minutes to jump out to a lead that they would never relinquish. Apprentice (1-1) led 24-9 after the first quarter and 50-18 at halftime.
Coach Courtney Collins’ team didn’t waver in the second half, adding five points to the lead by the end of the third quarter before notching up the lead by nine more by the final horn.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Nyla Jackson led all scorers with 19 points on the day. Amaya Ray put up 14, Jada Bryant had 13 and Jada Eleby and Neondra Kelly each had 12.
- The win marked the first win for Collins as a collegiate head coach.
NEXT UP
The Builders are back in action tomorrow at Carolina Christian with tipoff set for noon. It is the conference opener for both teams.
