New Era. New Energy. Coach Sean Walters Takes the Helm of AU Football

MIAMI, Fl. – Atlantis University is proud to usher in a new chapter in its football program with the appointment of Sean Walters as the new Head Football Coach. With a coaching pedigree built on grit, integrity, and holistic player development, Coach Walters brings not just experience but a powerful vision for what AU football can be and will become.

Coach Walters’ journey to Atlantis is anything but accidental. He cut his teeth in the junior college ranks as a special teams coordinator and linebackers coach before rising to the role of defensive coordinator. He later served as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Kentucky Christian University, sharpening his defensive philosophy and leadership approach. Through every stop, Walters has remained grounded in one principle: build young men first, athletes second.

“My goal is to instill in our players what I have instilled in me as a young athlete: discipline, purpose, and character. But most importantly, I want to help them grow into men who can win in life, not just on the field,” Walters shared during his first AU interview with host Laura Rojas.

A Blueprint for Culture and Character

What separates Coach Walters isn’t just his defensive acumen; it’s the depth of his vision for the program. At the core of his philosophy is structure, accountability, and a relentless commitment to academic and personal excellence.

“The way you do anything is the way you do everything,” Walters emphasized. “Whether it’s showing up to class, engaging on discussion boards, or taking notes in the front row—we’re building habits that carry into life.”

From day one, Walters and his staff are focused on building from within. Their top priority is understanding the current roster, developing the players who are already in the building, and empowering them to become cultural cornerstones for the incoming classes.

“Retention is key. We aim to develop the individuals here into leaders. When recruits arrive, they’ll walk into a structure that already reflects our standard.”

Vision for the Field and Beyond

When asked about expectations for the upcoming season, Coach Walters kept it honest: AU fans should expect a team that competes on the field, in the classroom, and life.

“We’ll be humble, but we won’t back down. Our players will represent Atlantis with pride. It’s not just about the name on the back of the jersey; it’s about what’s on the front. We play for something bigger than ourselves.”

This mindset also extends to his community strategy. Walters is determined to make the AU brand visible across South Florida through outreach, camps, and presence in youth sports environments. “We’re not just building a team—we’re building a legacy,” he said.

A Message to the AU Community

Coach Walters closed his debut interview with a direct message to students, alums, and supporters:

“Know this, you’re going to be proud of the product you see on the field and in the community. We will win. But more importantly, we will win the right way. With class, with toughness, and with a shared purpose.”
