Mustangs Dominate Warriors 6-1 on Senior Day

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The Mid‑Atlantic Christian Mustangs scored six unanswered goals and routed Appalachian Bible 6-1 on Saturday.

App Bible struck early with a goal in the third minute, but MACU responded just a minute later when Isaac Miller collected a pass from Dedrick Blow and put the Mustangs on the scoreboard. Miller added his second goal at the 16-minute mark, giving the Mustangs a comfortable 2-0 first-half lead.

After the break, the Mustangs kept up the pressure with Daniel Rose scoring in the 47th minute and again in the 61st (the latter assisted by Kaleb West) to push the lead to 4-0. West then added his own goal in the 77th minute before Alexander Fernandez-Peralta capped the scoring in the 89th minute for the Mustangs’ sixth.

Shots told the tale: Mid-Atlantic Christian out-shot ABC 16-3, including 15 on target versus 3 for Appalachian Bible. The Warrior goalkeeper made 7 saves while surrendering six goals, while the Mustangs’ keeper recorded three saves and allowed only one.

The Mustangs finished the regular season at 5-9.

Gators Get First Program Win at MACU

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Coming off a tough match Thursday at Anne Arundel CC that saw the Gators score first and enter halftime down 3-2, Virginia Peninsula hit the road to take on Mid-Atlantic Christian in search of the program’s first win. Scoring early and often, the visitors took command of the game and never looked back, leading 6-0 at the half and finishing off the Mustangs for a 9-2 victory.

The win is the first in program history, and couldn’t have come at a better time, as the Gators finish off a 3-game road trip with a match at Cape Fear on Labor Day. “We needed a positive game that gave us a bit more time on the ball to rehearse and further develop our system of play,” said Gators head coach Kevin Darcy. “Our opening matches against two very good opponents, in Southern Maryland and Anne
Arundel, were difficult as we weren’t ready for the speed and physicality of the college game. We will get
better the more we play, and this match helped build confidence in our players and motivate them going into the match at Cape Fear on Monday.”

The second half started much like the first as the Gators broke through for two early goals before slowing down the pace, keeping possession and looking at players in different roles. “It was great to be able to look at players in different roles as I am still learning a lot about our player pool and what system fits us the best,” Darcy said. “I like our group and am confident we will be very competitive as the season goes on.”
